One guitar. One loop pedal. Eighty thousand voices.

Born in Halifax, West Yorkshire in 1991 and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk, Ed Sheeran spent his teens busking, playing open mics and self-releasing EPs before his debut album + arrived in 2011.

Armed with an acoustic guitar and a loop pedal, he built songs live in front of audiences — layer by layer — and carried that same one-man setup all the way to the world’s biggest stadiums. Along the way came songs like “The A Team”, “Thinking Out Loud”, “Shape of You” and “Perfect”.

The loop pedal is the whole idea in miniature: start with one small sound, record it, then build on top of it until a single person on a stage sounds like a band. That is how the songs grow too — honest, simple, and then enormous.
